Ear training for guitar: hear it, play it back

Playing what you hear is the skill behind learning songs by ear and improvising. Melody practice plays a short phrase and you play it back on your guitar. Get them right and the phrases grow longer.

    How it works

    1. Pick an exercise, from two-note phrases in one box to blues licks and major-scale melodies.
    2. Press Start and listen. Watch the neck if you want to see the notes.
    3. Play it back. The microphone checks each note: the ones you get turn green, and a wrong one is marked.
    4. Make it harder by showing the notes only once you’re done, or not at all.

No guitar to hand? Answer by tapping the notes on the neck instead.
