Progression

Practice chord changes and strumming patterns

Clean, on-time chord changes are what make a song sound like a song. Build a progression, pick a strum pattern and a tempo, and play along with a guitar that never rushes. The chord you’re on, the next one and a countdown to the change are always on screen.

    How to practice chord changes

    1. Pick a chart. Start from a ready-made one, like the G to C change trainer, or press New and add your own chords.
    2. Set a tempo you can play cleanly, even if it feels slow. Tap it in if you like.
    3. Choose a strum pattern, or build one from down, up, muted and rest steps.
    4. Press play and keep going. Turn on the tempo trainer to add a few BPM every few loops.

    Check your timing

Click Listen and PennyGroove hears your strums through the microphone. Each one is marked on the beat, early, late or missed, and every loop is summed up, so you know whether you’re rushing the change or dragging it.
